Troubleshooting & FAQs

This section contains suggestions and solutions to problems that may occur with your integration.

How long will an authorization be valid on a payer account?

This depends on the financial institution who issued the card to the payer. Each card issuer defines the authorization expiry period in which they hold the funds on the payer's account, while they wait for the arrival of the capture transaction. Generally it is 5-8 processing days, before the authorization purges from the payer account and access to the funds are released back to the payer.

How are card details from multiple sources (tokens, payment sessions) combined in requests?
How do I parse validation errors if I wish to display graceful messages to my payers?

You can use the following fields to catch validation errors:

The field error.explanation [REST][NVP] will contain some human readable error text giving further information about the error, such as minimum or expected length, etc. Do not parse this information as the format for this text cannot be guaranteed.

How are the Payment Client and Virtual Payment Client response codes mapped to DirectAPI?

Can I resubmit a request to the CommWeb payment gateway if I don't receive a response?

Yes, it's safe to resubmit a request with the exact same details because the gateway supports idempotent operations. Idempotent operations produce the same result when invoked repeatedly. If the gateway has already received your request, it will return the original response; otherwise it will process the request and return the response.

How can I match up requests to the CommWeb payment gateway with responses?

Typically, you can match up requests to responses using order.id and transaction.id fields as these are provided in the requests and returned in the responses. However, if your application does not support a synchronous integration model or your source and target for a request differ, you can use the field correlationId to identify the request and its matching response. correlationId is a transient identifier, the value for which does not persist in the gateway and is returned as provided in the response to the request. You can use the correlationId with all DirectAPI requests.

Why am I getting No merchant acquirer link error for an acquirer I am configured for?

Please contact your payment service provider to make sure your merchant acquirer link on the gateway is configured for the required card type and currency combinations.

What is Merchant Administration?

Merchant Administration is a web-based interface that allows merchants to easily view and manage their orders. The merchants can search and view their order/transaction details, download CSV reports, check 3-D Secure results, set up risk controls, create orders manually, manage refunds, and much more. Refer to Merchant Administration User Guide for more details.

Merchants need to be boarded on the gateway and have their merchant profile configured successfully to access Merchant Administration.

What if my transaction gets declined?

The issuer or card network may provide additional information in the form of a Merchant Advice Code, which will help you understand the reason for declining the transaction. When a transaction is declined for insufficient funds, the advice code may recommend a retry time frame to merchants in which an authorization approval is likely to be successful.

The following table provides a description of the various merchant advice codes returned by the schemes.
